The Discovery Explorer Scout Unit wrapped up their spring term with a variety of engaging indoor activities — a trend they don’t plan to continue into the summer! While the warmth of the hut kept everyone sheltered from the bitter cold, the spirit of adventure was very much alive.

Highlights included sharing tales of summer escapades and a fantastic evening of Scottish flair at the Burns Night Ceilidh, hosted by Steve and Helen — a big thank you to both for a memorable night of dancing and celebration.

The rest of the term brought a fun mix of challenges and festivities, from a sharp-eyed round of Bullseye and creative chaos with Taskmaster, to the ever-popular Pancake Night. The unit also marked Australia Day with themed activities and fun.

With longer evenings ahead, the Explorers are eager to get back outdoors for an action-packed summer term!

Discovery Explorers Reflects on Action-Packed Term, Looks Ahead to the New Year

This term has been one to remember for the unit, as explorers took part in an array of exciting activities that challenged their skills, expanded their knowledge, and brought them closer together as a team.

The term began with outdoor adventures, including rock climbing in the Peak District and an introduction to archery. Explorer Scouts also deepened their practical knowledge by honing their first aid skills and competing in the county scout orienteering competition.

In addition to outdoor pursuits, the group found time to contribute to their community. They created a wreath for the local village Remembrance service and attended a village amateur dramatics performance. Scouts also enjoyed some lighter moments, playing an adapted version of the popular game show House of Games.

Adding an international flavor to their activities, the unit tried their hand at international cooking and capped it off with a night out in Milton Keynes.

The term concluded with a Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) presentation, showcasing the achievements of members who completed expeditions, creating memories to last a lifetime. The presentation was paired with a festive Christmas meal and quiz, providing a joyful send-off to the year.

Reflecting on a successful term, the unit expressed gratitude to its past and current members for their contributions, noting that the group had grown in strength and numbers over the year. As they prepare for the next term, they look forward to more adventures, challenges, and opportunities to make a positive impact in their community.

Stay tuned for what’s to come next term as this dynamic scout unit continues its tradition of learning, service, and fun!
